orange hats

Paladino has pledged that he would serve just one term as governor. If this successful Chief Executive Officer accomplishes any of what he says that he will as CEO of New York, and makes it possible for companies like Gazette columnist Bob Confer’s to successfully compete, perhaps he can keep his promise and go on to serve as CEO of the United States. Even now, perhaps is making mock plastic construction hats in red, white and blue with, “Rebuilding the USA with Carl Paladino” on the outside label, and on the inside label it says, MADE IN USACheap Monster energy hats.

While the orange hat’s outside sticker talked about rebuilding New York, the inside label, like too many of the labels on products in this great country of ours, said, MADE IN CHINA.

But the symbolism was uncanny. It was indicative of how much further New York has to rebuild on the road to establishing itself as a mechanism where its citizens have schools that can graduate them, and employment opportunities exist that, as Paladino put it, are more than, “... just one-way bus tickets to Raleigh and Phoenix.”

The orange hard hats with “Rebuilding NY with Carl Paladino” emblazoned on them are symbolic of those worn by workers who routinely make the heavy lifts. They were just that: symbolic.

Then, Wholesale Monster energy hatswith emphasis on the best use of the mock construction hats that his people would soon give out, he said that the state is in a crisis today, and that now comes the time for our longest haul and our heaviest lift.

Paladino stated that some say that our brightest days are behind us. He reiterated that he believes that our brightest days are ahead of us, and then talked about the reductions of taxes and program cuts that he would make.

Paladino paraphrased the oft used and oft-unrealized line from the movie network. That is, “If we have learned one thing tonight,” he said, “it’s New Yorkers are as mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore.”

However, just after 11 p.m., when the Associated Press reported that Paladino had won, Cheap DC shoes hats he descended upon the stage before a jubilant crowd, and the rings appeared to have disappeared. Perhaps it was make-up but I could easily understand how the rings may have only appeared to be gone when bathed in the bright light of his rare and glowing smile.

At 5:30 p.m. that day, during the broadcast of Beach and Company on WBEN News Radio 930, during the newsbreak, Sandy and I saw Paladino on the muted television monitor and we could not help but notice the very dark rings under his eyes. I reminded Sandy of how hard Paladino had worked over the last few months, and how he had earned those rings.

I know how he feels. It was an honor for me to be in the front row of Paladino’s historic moment; but I was not there to cheer Paladino on. As a columnist, I have the luxury to write about the feel, as well as the facts, of an event.

WIVB-TV’s Rich Newberg said it best during his acceptance speech of his induction into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Newberg commented about his many years in reporting the news, and those many newsmakers upon which he reported. As with Paladino’s victory speech, I was at the Broadcaster’s dinner when Newberg made his remark, stating that, “It has been a real honor having a front row seat on history.”Wholesale DC shoes hats

Like the sports paraphernalia that touts the winning team’s championship directly after the final gun of the final game, Paladino’s hats were made ahead of time and the two labels that they bore, one on the outside and the other on the inside, told the whole story. The outside one said, “Rebuilding NY with Carl Paladino,” and I’ll get to the inside label in a moment. It tells why.

At the end of Buffalo-Niagara Falls developer and Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino’s victory speech, in the atrium of his Ellicott Square Building, he made orange, mock construction hats available to supporters.

Kansas City Chiefs

While Chambers has been a bit of a castaway with the cheap Dolphins jersey and Chargers, he's seemingly found a home in Kansas through necessity; meaning that the Chiefs desperately needed a deep threat. Catching long bombs is really all Chambers does. The rest of the passes are usually flung Bowe's way when he's not being suspended or injured. In 11 games last season, Bowe managed just 589 receiving yards and only 4 touchdowns.

Yet the rushing game in Kansas still ranked eleventh overall (120.6 yards per game). Cassel's passing attack ranked a bottom feeding 25th overall with just 182.6 passing yards per game. You can't really blame Cassel. His offensive line is a mess and his best receiver options have been Chris Chambers and cheap Dwyane Bowe jersey .

I just don't see why people are so optimistic about this team. I think Thomas Jones is a very good running back, but part of the reason he became such a force in the NFL is because he was running behind Tony Richardson  and Alan Faneca in their primes. Jamaal Charles is a trusty back third-down option, but his 5-foot-11 and 199 pound frame isn't big enough to be an every down soldier.

In preseason betting he's been much better. Against the Bucs in Week 2, Cassel went 14-for-19, throwing 125 passing yards while notching a touchdown. The wholesale Chiefs jersey host the Philadelphia Eagles as +3.0 underdogs in preseason betting tonight.

On his new team, the problem for Cassel has been giving him a reasonable amount of talent. In 2009, Cassel managed just 2,924 yards and had 16 touchdowns with just as many interceptions. He was also sacked 42 times while posting a dismal 69.9 quarterback rating.

When Kansas City signed Matt Cassel to a ludicrous, 6-year, $63 million contract in the summer of 2009, they at least resolved their issues at finding a starting quarterback. I call the deal silly largely because Cassel had just one productive season in his entire college and NFL career, and that was with Randy Moss and Bill Belichik supporting him.

The Chiefs are slated as +700 dogs to win the AFC West which should confuse a lot of people who've been following football for the past few years. Boneheaded front office moves have left the Chiefs a blithering mess. They traded away Jared Allen who has become an MVP candidate with the Vikings, and also dealt Tony Gonzalez away with no discernable receiving options to fill the void.

What was once the most competitive division in football has become a wasteland of talent in the NFL. The AFC West is literally wide open this year even though the San Diego Chargers boast a hefty betting bandwagon as moderate favorites in wholesale NFL hatsFutures betting. While the Oakland Raiders might see a turnaround season if things go their way, a lot of handicappers are gallantly backing the Kansas City Chiefs as their upstart pick to win the division. Brian Urlacher has resumed his spot as centerpiece of the Bears' defense

There are no bad guys on our team, so it's not hard for people to fit in. We've got a great group of guys and I think we're going to keep getting better as the season goes on."

Harris is familiar with the defense, having spent his first two NFL seasons with the Bears in 2005-06. He was traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2007 and reacquired a few months ago after the draft.

Peppers, who signed with the Bears on the first day of free agency in March, is a freakish 6-7, 283-pound athlete who possesses a rare combination of power, speed and quickness.

Asked how often he is amazed by what Peppers is able to do, Brian Urlacher said: "Every day. The things he does … his speed off the ball, his reaction. I watch film and [think], 'How does he do that?'"

After hearing both Lovie Smith and Mike Tice praise the starting offensive line's performance against the Chargers, right tackle Frank Omiyale not surprisingly agreed with his coaches.

"I thought we did pretty good," Omiyale said. "We stayed together. We communicated really well. Of course, [center] Olin [Kreutz], the stuff he sees, it definitely came into play early, the plays that he had. We feel good about where we're going. It's a good start, but we're Jay Cutler nowhere where we want to be."

After playing guard last season, Omiyale is happy to be back at his natural position. Well, sort of.

"I love being able to use my quickness and different things," he said. "But wherever I'm at, I'm going to make it happen. So it's not that much better. Just being on the field is nice."

That is to say the middle linebacker's return from the knee injury that ended his 2009 season is a vital component to the success of Philadelphia's defense.

The Eagles learned the true value of Bradley when he wasn't around last Jay Cutler season - he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in training camp - as they struggled to replace their defensive signal caller. They tried Matt Wilhelm, Joe Mays and Omar Gaither, traded for Will Witherspoon, and even re-signed Jeremiah Trotter for a third time. None could hold down the job as well as Bradley, who had 108 tackles in 2008 and played traffic cop in the middle of the defense.

Bradley says he has no doubt he can pick up where he left off before the injury.

"I've been clear off my knee for so many months now that it doesn't even feel like an issue in my mind," he said. "I've been running and doing so much speed work that I felt like I had a normal off-season. I feel as good as I ever have."

Assuming Bradley can wrap his arms around a full recovery, it will be the best tackle he has made as a pro.

Ten other NFL standouts coming back this season from injuries:

-Wes Welker, WR, New England: Welker, maybe the best slot receiver in football, is recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee. He didn't play in the exhibition opener but might be ready for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

-Troy Polamalu, S, Pittsburgh: The Steelers were 4-1 with Polamalu last season, 5-6 without him. He's the unquestioned quarterback of that defense, and he's hoping his recuperating knee will be 100 percent by the time the season starts.

-Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Indianapolis: Gonzalez, coming off a knee injury, is an excellent receiver. It will be interesting to see where he fits in the Colts' scheme now that Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie proved themselves in his absence.

-Brian Urlacher, LB, Chicago: Sidelined by a severe wrist injury last season, Brian Urlacher  has resumed his spot as centerpiece of the Bears' defense. He says the injury has actually improved how he uses his hands.

-Rey Maualuga, LB, Cincinnati: A former USC standout, Maualuga started 15 games at strong-side linebacker for the Bengals last season before suffering a broken ankle. He's back now, and embracing his newfound sobriety.

-Kris Jenkins, DT, New York Jets: Even without Jenkins, among the game's best nose tackles, the Jets finished No. 1 last season in total defense. Now, Jenkins is back but star cornerback Darrelle Revis is holding out. Can the team still meet its lofty standards?

-Clinton Portis, RB, Washington: A concussion cut short Portis' 2009 season, and the running back finished with career lows of 494 yards rushing and a touchdown. He's 18 pounds lighter this season and competing for the No. 1 job with Larry Johnson, Willie Parker and Ryan Torain.

-Ronnie Brown, RB, Miami: When he's healthy, Brown can be a spectacular player. He has missed 20 games in the last five years because of injuries, heading to the sideline last season because of a broken foot. He and Ricky Williams could wind up joining Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris as the only tandem 1,000-yard backs in club history.

Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson likes the perspective

"We just felt to this point he's earned an opportunity to compete for a starting position," coach Mike McCarthy said. "Our intent throughout the spring and going into training camp was to work him exclusively at left tackle. Have been very impressed with his body of work to this point and we're going to give him an opportunity to compete with Daryn Colledge and Allen Barbre at the left guard position."

McCarthy said he began to think about the move during the middle of last week, talked about it with line coaches James Campen and Jerry Fontenot on Friday and Sunday night.

"It's a testament to Bryan," McCarthy said. "Bryan has come in here, I mean, he's talented, he's tough, he's doing things the right way. He's got a lot of football in front of him. He's got a lot to learn. We feel from an offensive line depth standpoint, this is the deepest group that we've had in our time here, and we're continuing to try to train the younger players at one position, which is tough, not really realistic, because you start looking at that depth chart and you're trying to get some clarity to it, and we feel by making this move it may add some clarity to it. Once again, not to be redundant, he has earned this right. He's been impressive. I like what I've seen from the individual drills through the group drills all the way through the team drills, and I saw it again Saturday night. So we're going to give him a shot."

Bulaga, who will likely be back at left tackle on Tuesday morning when Chad Clifton gets the practice off, said he's ready.

"I'm excited about it," Bulaga said. "I don't know who wouldn't be excited Donald Driver about getting in there and having this opportunity so I'm excited about it and try to take advantage of it."

Colledge said he didn't take Bulaga's move as a slight to him.

"I just think they want to get the best five on the field and they're giving him an opportunity to show off he can play both positions," Colledge said. "Obviously he's proved he can play a little bit of left tackle and he can play a little bit of left guard I think it makes him even more valuable to the Packers.

"I thought I played well, thought I had a good week. I had my up and down Donald Driver days but I think for the most part it's been an aggressive climb uphill. Feel positive. Had a good scrimmage, I graded out well and I'm hearing positive things from the coaches."

Thompson also doesn't like seeing his players get banged up in the preseason, and it was a banged-up Packers squad that returned to practice Monday. Fourteen players were missing from their 80-man roster because of various injuries.

"Football is a movement, contact sport, so things are going to happen," said Thompson, who played 10 years in the NFL.

Linebacker Clay Matthews, who led the team with 10 sacks as a rookie and earned a Pro Bowl spot last season, was on the team's extensive disabled list. He suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday's scrimmage at Lambeau Field and will be out at least two weeks, coach Mike McCarthy said.

Matthews said he was "fighting off a fullback" when the injury occurred.

"It was nothing. I didn't feel like I opened up wrong or decelerated too fast," he said. "I think it's just one of those freak things."

The injury is to the same left hamstring that troubled Clay Matthews  early in training camp last year and kept him out of the first three preseason games. The two-week prognosis would leave the Packers without Matthews for their opening two preseason games, Saturday at home against Cleveland and Aug. 21 at Seattle.

Matthews isn't sure if he will be able to return by the Aug. 26 exhibition against Indianapolis at Lambeau.

"I'll be doing everything in my power to get back," he said. "Whether that's the third (preseason) game, fourth game or the start of the regular season, I'll be ready."

Matthews was training at left outside linebacker in the opening week of training camp after starter Brad Jones suffered a back injury on the first day. Jones has since returned and was one of only six linebackers the Packers had practice Monday.

Five players at the position were missing, including Clay Matthews and inside starter Nick Barnett, who was given a day to rest his surgically repaired knees.

"It seems like every training camp you go through a position that gets stressed," McCarthy said.

The Packers also were short-handed at wide receiver.

Donald Driver, who received a two-year contract extension Friday, was out because of tightness in his right calf.

"I had to get an MRI, just to check it out. It's good. I'll be fine," said Driver, who had surgery on his knees in the offseason. He said he plans to practice Tuesday.

Fellow receiver Brett Swain took a hit to his surgically repaired knee in the scrimmage and didn't practice Monday, but McCarthy said Swain will be okay.

Jordy Nelson, another of the team's wideouts, returned to the field after being knocked out of the scrimmage with a bruised side caused by a hit from safety Charlie Peprah on a long pass completion. Though he still had soreness Monday, Nelson felt he needed to practice because of the attrition at his position.

"You don't ever want anyone getting hurt, and we're getting a couple of guys banged up," Nelson said. "It's a part of training camp. They've just got to get back as soon as possible because it's wearin' and tearin' on other people."

A year ago, Mark Sanchez was a rookie quarterback for the Jets

This partly depends on the development of Mark Sanchez. I'm not sure about LT, he's over thirty and has showed many signs of slowing down. The running game scares me, as Shonn Greene did prove to be injury prone in his rookie year. When Holmes returns from his four-game suspension, he may become the number one target in the Jets offense.

Can Mark Sanchez Build on Last Year's Good Playoff Showing?

I've already been bashed because in the Dolphins preview I said I'd take Sanchez over Chad Henne. Mark Sanchez played very well in the AFC Championship against the Colts. The interceptions should come down from last year's total, since he was a rookie. Santonio Holmes should help his progression as well.

A year ago, Mark Sanchez  was a rookie quarterback for the Jets who just wanted to prove he deserved to be the starter. This year his attitude is markedly different.

"This is my team," Sanchez said. "This is my offense. You need to own it. . . . When you walk in a room, people should know: That's the quarterback. That's our guy."

Although some veteran players might bristle at the 23-year-old Sanchez getting on them when they screw up, he says that's a part of being the unquestioned leader.

"When they do something wrong, you got to let them know," Sanchez said. "That's probably the toughest part -- to try to find your way. It's a challenge to be a leader like that."

Jets coach Rex Ryan says the rest of the team buys into Sanchez as a leader because the players see his commitment.

"With all the preparation," Ryan said, "he knows and the team knows that nobody worked harder than he did."

Sam Bradford's long, difficult journey begins with St. Louis Rams

The Rams are paying Sam Bradford a fortune to become the Face of the Franchise. The NFL's first overall pick offers a beacon of hope for frustrated fans.

The team drafted him to become the catalyst for change, the Human Turning Point for an operation that lost its way.

But here's the problem: The Rams offense has miles to go — despite that mind-boggling investment (up to $86 million!) at quarterback.

That was evident Sunday morning. Fans who ventured out to Rams Park watched the defense manhandle the offense during training camp drills.

Rams defenders blew up the run again and again. They sat on the short pass patterns that remain the bread and butter of this ball-control scheme.

They forced Bradford and his fellow quarterbacks to check down to their running backs again and again.

"You know, I think that's typical this time of year," Rams coach Steven Jackson Spagnuolo said after the session. "Offense is so much timing and getting the ball out. It's really the first time the quarterback gets anybody pushed in front of him. Same thing with the run blocks. That stuff will even itself out, but for the defensive side, I was happy to see that."

Still, this scene was distressingly familiar for fans that endured last season's 1-15 fiasco. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and his staff face an enormous challenge.

There are no magic wands in this league. Bradford's arrival offers a starting point and no more.

Let's put it this way: Aside from Bradford, running back Steven Jackson and perhaps rookie wide receiver Mardy Gilyard, how many skill-position Rams would interest other teams?

Their most polished receiver, Laurent Robinson, has just 55 career receptions. He runs crisp routes but can't stay healthy.

Speedy Donnie Avery has 100 catches in two seasons, but he looks more like a No. 3 receiver than a true No. 1. The obscure supporting cast behind these two includes Keenan Burton, Brandon Gibson, Danny Amendola, Brooks Foster and Jordan Kent.

"A tremendous amount of competition. I'm enjoying watching it," Spagnuolo said. "There's a lot of quality guys there. Somebody will step forward. We're not going to tag them a one, two, and three. We're just going to have five, six, whatever we keep, wideouts that are going to help us win."

Jackson's backups include journeyman Kenneth Darby and fringe prospects Chris Ogbonnaya and Keith Toston, who played in college at Oklahoma State. No NFL team has less depth at this critical position.

The Rams' go-to tight end is Daniel Fells, who has 28 catches in two NFL seasons. Perhaps their most talented tight end, Fendi Onobun, is a former college basketball player.

And then there is the offensive line, which could feature inexperienced tackles on both sides — injury-prone Jason Smith and rookie Rodger Saffold.

Add it all up and Bradford faces a daunting challenge. That he is getting paid All-Pro dollars only adds to the challenge. That massive contract creates massive expectations.

Rookie Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez broke in on a playoff team with a great ground game, an imposing offensive line and a shutdown defense.

Rookie Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford broke in with one of the NFL's most talented receivers, Calvin Johnson.

Both still took a physical beating. Both still struggled. Both threw more interceptions (40 combined) than touchdown passes (25 combined).

So what should we expect Bradford to do? Fans want to see him start in Week 1, but what's the rush? Shouldn't the Rams build a strong offense before asking Bradford to run it?

Developing a viable attack will take time. Developing this quarterback will take even longer.

defensive end Jared Allen

This is a real hands-on opportunity, too. His ability to seal the ninth inning will have a significant impact on Minnesota's defense of the AL Central title.

"I played in the playoffs in the minors a couple of years. Obviously that's quite a bit different, but with what we do we're all competitive," Capps said. "It doesn't matter what the situation is. Every time I go on the mound, nobody's going to put more pressure on me than myself. As far as meaningful team-wise, it's been a long time. But every time I took the mound, no matter what the situation was it meant something to me. I always did my best, and it's not going to change now."

Capps wasn't a part of late-season excitement while pitching for Pittsburgh and Washington. His trade to the Twins on Thursday night thrust him into a new league and a new situation, but the All-Star closer sounded comfortable before Friday's game against Seattle after meeting his Twins teammates for the first time.

"Everybody was very engaging and made me feel at home right away, so I think it's going to be a good, fun second half," Capps said.

After Capps was acquired from the Nationals for prized catching prospect Wilson Ramos and minor-league left-hander Joe Testa, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire called right-hander Jon Rauch and told him he would move back to the setup role he was in until Joe Nathan hurt his elbow and needed season-ending surgery.

"He says, 'Gardy, wherever you want me to pitch, that's where I'll pitch.' I'm sure he's a little disappointed, but like I said he's a professional and he wants to win," Gardenhire said.

Rauch declined to speak with reporters.

Capps downplayed any potential awkwardness about taking over.

"Bottom line: If we go out and put a ring on our fingers, nobody's going to care who does what," he said.

Capps was 3-3 with a 2.74 ERA and 26 saves in 30 chances for Washington, making his 5.80 ERA for Pittsburgh in 2009 look more like an aberration. The 26-year-old, who is making $3.5 million this year and won't be a free agent until after next season, has nine walks and 38 strikeouts in 46 innings. Better location has been a big help.

"He's a bulldog, a great guy, a great teammate, got a great arm," Gardenhire said.

Rauch will share the eighth-inning assignments, depending on batter matchups, with right-handers Matt Guerrier and Jesse Crain and left-hander Jose Mijares. The trade for the Twins is also a measure of stability for 2011, when Nathan is expected back but without guarantee he'll be ready right away after coming back from ligament replacement surgery.

"That's just going to make this ballclub better," Capps said, adding: "If I'm the eighth-inning guy or the ninth-inning guy or the 10th-inning guy, that's all that matters."

It didn't take long after E.J. Henderson's gruesome injury last season for speculation to begin that the Vikings linebacker's career could be threatened.

Less than eight months later, he's taking snaps again at Vikings training camp, surprisingly having avoided the active/PUP list.  E.J. Henderson has yet to participate in full contact work, but he's making steady progress.

"I know it was a bad injury and I know some of those injuries can be career-ending," defensive end Jared Allen told the Associated Press. "So to see him back running, to see him back with a helmet in his hand, to me is awesome. It's inspiring."

Brad Childress says Henderson has been "religious" about his rehab "almost to the point where you have to hold him back."

Henderson quietly has deflected any attention from his recovery. "I just look at it as a little journey I took. Seven months and I'm back at it," E.J. Henderson said.

The Eagles front office is hoping Allen

The move comes one day after Bleacher Reports own Bob Cunningham reported the two were extremely close to coming to terms, you can read his column here .

Allen is expected to report to camp tomorrow in which his early arrival will pay huge dividends in the long run. The sooner he and DB coach Dick Jauron can begin working together, the quicker Allen gets caught up to speed to secure a starting job.

The Eagles front office is hoping Allen can finally put an end to the hole created when Brian Dawkins bolted out of town for Denver.

The 6'1", 210 lb. safety has the size, speed, and brute mentality to become a very legitimate safety with the help of the Eagles new DB coach.

Coming out of college, Allen already has a knack for being around the ball as he finished his college career with a total 224 tackles (five for a loss), three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and nine interceptions.

He also accounted for four touchdowns in college: a 44 yard INT return (his longest), 47 yard fumble recovery, a nine yard reception (according to the Eagles website), and a 75 yard punt block.

Nate Allen is capable of making an immediate impact on the Eagles defense if he buries his nose in the playbook and works side by side with Dick Jauron.

Allen will have some competition as seventh round pick Kurt Coleman received a solid amount of praise from defensive coordinator Sean McDermott after the morning practice.

Coach McDermott commented on Coleman's play during a press conference saying:

"Kurt's a smart football player and he's handled himself extremely well," McDermott said after practice. "What he showed me today is that he's been working. He's worked with the coaches during the offseason. He's been very studious in the way he's approached the time when he was away from us."

"The way he handled himself out there this morning, you would have never known he was away for about a month which is to his credit."

Kurt was playing at both safety spots today but did see the majority of his time at the free safety position with the absence of Allen while the contract was worked out.

It's an overall a great experience for anyone," said Kevin Schaeffer, an Eagles fan from Lebanon, Pa., who has been coming to training camp each summer since 2004. "It's not just for adults to come and watch practice, kids love it because they get to see the players up close, and there's games and stuff for them, too. And one of the best things about it is it's free."

Parking and admission to training camp is free, and with practices open to Asante Samuel the public most days between now and the end of camp in late August, there will be plenty of chances for fans from the Poconos to make the drive — less than an hour from Stroudsburg.

Many fans brought their own food for tailgate cookouts or picnics. For those looking to pack lighter and buy snacks, a few food vendors sold traditional football grub such as hot dogs, pretzels and french fries alongside cotton candy and Italian ice, soda and lemonade.

If you decide to buy food, be prepare for stadium prices. Bottled drinks are $3, and hot dogs $3.50. Italian ice sells for $3 and soft pretzels for $2.

Crowds were relatively light Tuesday, compared with the throngs that usually pour in during the camp's first weekend after the Eagles jerseys remaining veterans report Thursday. The first full-team practices open to the public will be Saturday.

Even without the whole squad in camp on opening day, many recognizable players were taking part in practices, including quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick, who drew the largest crowds in the afternoon practice session. Kolb was one of the most popular players with fans Tuesday; he is slated to take over the starting quarterback role from departed star Donovan McNabb after his 11 seasons with the Eagles football jerseys.

Many fans still sported McNabb's No. 5 jersey, and the former Eagle's jersey is on sale for only $8 in the team's merchandise tent just off the practice fields.

The combine will be run by Jim Lynch of National Recruits and is sponsored by Genesis Health Clubs and Vype Magazine.

Combine testing will be independently done by Genesis professionals and will include the 40 yards dash, vertical, pro-agility and many others. All results will be sent to every college in the state as well as surrounding states. Results will also be sent to the athletes, athlete's coach and athletic director.

The Eagles failed to add a center either through the draft

Now it is up to second-year man and 2009 second-round pick LeSean McCoy Jeremy Maclin to step up and be the running back the team needs to both balance the offense and take some undue pressure off Kolb this season.

The former Pitt star looked good early in the season. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry in the opener against Carolina. He rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown in a start in place of an injured Westbrook against Kansas City. He ran for a 66-yard touchdown against the Giants. And he had back-to-back games of 99 and 76 yards against Chicago and Washington respectively.

And that was it.

After gaining 528 yards on 123 carries, an average of 4.3 yards per carry through the first 11 games, McCoy finished the season with just 109 yards on 32 carries, an average of 3.4 yards per carry over the last five games.

In the playoff loss to Dallas, he was a non-factor with five carries for 24 yards.

The Eagles are going to need the early-season McCoy to reappear and it will Asante Samuel start with how he does in camp.

Center of Attention: Jamaal Jackson, not that he was being confused with Jim Otto, will not start the season after tearing his ACL late last season. The Eagles failed to add a center either through the draft, or free agency, so the job falls on Nick Cole, who did OK at right guard, but not so OK in place of Jackson in the losses to Dallas at the end of last season.

Cole, at 6-0, 350, ranks as the shortest starting center in the league and is four inches, although 25 pounds heavier than Jackson.

Andy Reid says he's fine with the undrafted Cole (an aside here, but the Eagles football jerseys haven't had a starting center they drafted since David Alexander, who was drafted by Buddy Ryan in 1987) starting in the middle of an offensive line that also has questions at right guard with the health and ability of Stacy Andrews and at left guard, depending on Todd Herremans' bad foot.

Again, Kolb, as any quarterback, is going to need to be protected to succeed and the interior of the line did not play well last season.

And it does not appear to be any better heading into camp.

Growing up in Hawthorne taught Cornelius Ingram most of what he needed to know about life. It was on the dirt roads and rolling hills of the rural town that he first picked up a football, cut lawns and spent summers with a tight-knit group of neighbors and teammates.

But on his return trip to the town, before training camp for his second year with the new Philadelphia Eagles jerseys, Ingram really got a grasp of all that he had to be thankful for.

Ingram jogged around playfully and interacted with nearly 100 area youths and several dozen more well-wishers at his annual football camp held at Hawthorne High School's football field Saturday morning. There was no limp, nor sign of an athlete that had torn the same left ACL two years in a row; just that infectious smile that UF fans remember so fondly.

"Really, tearing (the ACL) again was a blessing," he said.

Normally, a repeat injury to an athlete's knee could mean a premature end to a blossoming career. It started when Ingram tore the ligament just before the start of his senior season at UF.

"The graft just failed," he said, still wearing a bit of disbelief on his face. "When the graft fails, everything shuts down. It wasn't the surgery or anything like that. It was just the graft failing. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it don't."

Predraft physicals showed the potential for a second tear, causing the once-projected second-round tight end to tumble to the fifth round. Two days into his first training camp, the ligament failed again. But it was this tear that turned out to be a blessing more than a burden.

The Raiders’ offense in 2010

After two long seasons with QB JaMarcus Russell at the helm, the Raiders finally pulled the plug on that ill-fated experiment and traded with Washington for Jason Campbell. They also brought in Hue Jackson as their new offensive coordinator to help reshape an offense that finished the 2009 season ranked 31st in total yards and points per game.

They still lack enough weapons at most of the other skill positions to turn things around overnight, but these two moves are a definite step in the right direction.

Look for RB's Michael Bush and Darren McFadden and TE Zach Miller to have an expanded role in the offense this season as all three players are young and talented.

The real improvement in this team should be on the defensive side of the ball. After finally using the draft to properly address their needs, this defense should play well enough to keep them in the game against most of the teams they will face.

First round pick LB Rolando McClain and second round pick DT Lamarr Houston should be able to immediately help a run defense that was ranked 29th in the league, giving up an average of over 155 yards on the ground per game. All in all the Raiders used six of their nine draft choices on defensive players to add some depth to a unit that has some talent but has yet to live up to its potential.

Another positive move was the resigning of restricted free agent DE Richard Seymour to a one year franchise tender deal.

Last year this team finished 5-11, but included in those few wins were victories over Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati. With the burden of dealing with Russell finally off their shoulders, the Raiders are poised to take a positive step forward in 2010.

Quarterback

Jason Campbell got out of Washington, which was a cancerous situation for him, but now comes to Oakland where things might not be much better. The Raiders football jerseys actually made a solid move in adding Campbell to the mix. His fantasy value is still highly questionable, however, and he should be viewed as little more than an injury replacement or bye week start based on matchups.

Running Backs

Can Darren McFadden become the lightning bolt he was at Arkansas? That's the question that will continue to plague the Raiders jerseys and fantasy owners. His enormous talent makes him a tempting option, but his production hasn't been worthy of a starting RB spot yet. Add to his lack of production three lost fumbles in only 125 touches last year, and his value is similar to Campbell: late round if at all.

Michael Bush is the more intriguing play. His skill set is more traditional than McFadden and he averaged 4.8 yards per carry last year in limited action. Bush should be considered a strong RB2 candidate in the late rounds.

Wide Receivers

This group is a wild card because of the improvement made under center in Campbell. Can Darrius Heyward-Bay be anything more than a track star? Is Louis Murphy ready to emerge as a legit receiver after leading the team with four touchdowns last year? What is Chaz Schillens worth in fantasy?

It's nearly impossible to put stock in any of these receivers because none of them have a track record of success in the NFL; Murphy's the best option, and he had only 34 catches for 521 yards last year. This group might be wait-and-see this year.

Tight End

This is the best bet for fantasy value on the Raiders' offense in 2010. Not only did Zach Miller have a very respectable 66 receptions for over 800 yards last year with three touchdowns, but Campbell has a history of using tight ends well in the red zone in Washington. Miller should be considered a strong second-tier TE play and could be a solid starting TE play this year.

The Oakland Raiders and the Raider Nation

Coach Tom Cable insists there will be a competition for the starting job, perhaps throwing a bone to Bruce Gradkowski, who stepped into Russell's mess and performed gamely. Gradkowski is nothing more than a solid backup, but he wears that hat well and the team responds to him. His agility and fearlessness helped open up more of the offense, though his accuracy and lack of a real rifle arm limit what he can do.

RB: With the departure of Justin Fargas, it's now "put up or shut up" time for Darren McFadden. Thus far in his young career, McFadden has been quiet. Proving the rare pre-draft critics (I'm one of the few!) correct so far, McFadden has shown he runs tight and goes down on first contact far too easily. He's also shown that if given a clear seam, he's very difficult to catch and can make open-area cuts that do Barry Sanders proud. That has not been the case very often thanks in no small part to the O-line in front of him, but McFadden must run tougher and stronger with his feet, which tend to stop when he's hit. He's also had injury issues that dog his production, but the speed and vision are clearly there.

McFadden will share the spot with Michael Bush, and the duo form perhaps the most diametrically opposed RB package in the league. Where McFadden struggles between the tackles and upon contact, the beefy Bush relishes the pounding inside. At over 240 pounds, Bush runs with violent legs and low shoulders, churning for every inch and delivering blows as much as he absorbs them. Running behind the same line that McFadden averaged just 3.4 yards per carry, Bush netted 4.8 yards per attempt. He lacks instant acceleration and isn't a great threat to bounce the ball outside, though he occasionally flashes some giddy-up (ask the Chiefs). It will be interesting to see how Coach Cable divvies up the carries, especially if McFadden continues to struggle. McFadden is clearly the more accomplished and dangerous receiver of the pair, and he remains a Wildcat threat as well. How much Hue Jackson decides to utilize McFadden in those capacities remains to be seen.

Rock Cartwright assumes the #3 back position, a role that he held in Washington for several seasons. Because Coach Cable is impatient with his RBs, he could see more carries than you might think. Fullback Luke Lawton might see a few carries as well, and his role expands with the release of Oren O'Neal. Because Lawton got busted for steroids and will miss the first four games, there is an open competition for the starting FB role in his stead. The Raiders do utilize the lead blocking FB more than most teams, so it's not an insignificant battle.

The Raiders announced a deal Monday for Ford, the sixth of Oakland's nine draft picks to agree to terms.

Ford starred in football and track at Clemson. He was the fastest receiver at the NFL combine, posting a 40-yard dash time of 4.28 seconds.

The Raiders have always loved speedy receivers under Al Davis's ownership. They traded veteran linebacker Kirk Morrison to acquire an extra fourth-round pick from Jacksonville to draft Ford, who is expected to return kicks in Oakland.

Ford caught 56 passes for 779 yards and six touchdowns last season at Clemson. He also ran for two touchdowns and averaged 14.3 yards per punt return.

New York is the minus 105 favorite at Bookmaker.com. New England is just ahead of the Jets at minus 110, followed by Miami (plus 525) and long shot Buffalo (plus 3500).

The Jets were on the outside looking in at the playoffs at 7-7 last year. However, they caught a big break when Indianapolis rested starters in Week 16 and Cincinnati did the same the final week.

Guaranteed DonBest.com Picks

Coach Rex Ryan's team took full advantage of its good fortune with playoff wins at Darren McFadden  Cincinnati and San Diego, before putting a scare into Indy in the AFC title game. Bettors are bullish on New York's division chances and have moved it ahead of hated New England.

The big question is chemistry. General Manager Mike Tannenbaum was a mad scientist in the offseason. Coming aboard were running back LaDainian Tomlinson, wide receiver Santonio Holmes, cornerback Antonio Cromartie and linebacker Jason Taylor. Holmes is suspended for the first four games of the season.

Those additions came at the expense of running back Thomas Jones and guard Alan Faneca. They were two veteran leaders in the locker room, while Holmes and Cromartie are substantial character risks.

Ryan is certainly a player's coach and doesn't lack the confidence to handle any situation. His No. 1 ranked defense in total yards (252.3) and points (14.8) shouldn't have much drop-off. Shonne Greene is the featured runner to replace Jones, with Tomlinson providing depth.

Second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez appears 100 percent after offseason knee surgery. He's out to improve the league's 31st ranked passing attack. Sanchez had 18 interceptions in the team's eight losses and four in the 11 wins.

Ryan wants to run the ball and rely on his defense, but also knows Nnamdi Asomugha that receivers Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery won't be happy unless they get the ball.

There are enough potential malcontents with cornerback Darrelle Revis and center Nick Mangold publicly unhappy about their contracts. Each is grumbling about a holdout and the loss of Revis would be particularly devastating.

New England may trail New York in the division odds, but it's the second-favorite (plus 485) in the AFC behind Indianapolis (plus 290). San Diego (plus 525), the Jets (plus 545) and Baltimore (plus 625) round out the top-5.

The Patriots and Jets each have the same win total at 9 ½. New England's 'over' comes with minus 125 juice, while New York's 'over' is minus 130.

The new Oakland Raiders jerseys and the Raider Nation is overtly optimistic as the 2010 NFL season closes in. The addition of Jason Campbell as the strong armed quarterback, the solid defensive standouts drafted in the NFL Draft and the re-signing of Richard Seymour as the steady veteran on defense has Oakland  and their fans in a frenzy of expectation as the Raiders prepare to report to training camp July 25, 2010.
Jason Campbell Will Have an Offense to Build On

Although the Oakland Raider offense sputtered in the 2009 Darrius Heyward NFL season, there were glimpses of greatness during the season. Darren McFadden showed his potential in several games and the Raiders young receivers stepped up with the occasional spectacular catch.

Jason Campbell will have plenty of targets to throw to and stretch the field with in his first season with the Oakland Raiders. Chaz Shillens and Louis Murphy will make great bookends for Campbell. Both wide receivers showed the potential to run great break off routes and both receivers hands improved as the season progressed.

The Oakland Raiders have signed two more draft

If we were to go back as far as 1945 and compare the winning percentages of all the teams in the NFL, the Raiders are the still the 3rd most winningest team in the NFL  with a record of 435-353-11 for a .551 winning percentage.

The Raiders were the first team in the NFL to have 16 consecutive winning seasons.  Only one team has more.

From 1965 to 1985, the Raiders had winning records in 19 of the 20 seasons.

No team has a better Monday Night Football record (the first 35 games played) 27-6-1

The Raiders boast a .500 or better record against 24 of the 31 teams in the NFL.

Given the history that this organization has, on occasion Nnamdi Asomugha  it may be necessary to remind the players, fans and members of the media, of where the Raiders have come from in order to accurately assess who they are as a team.

In the field Psychiatry, often a psychiatrist looks at the symptoms  Darren McFadden  a patient has and makes a diagnosis based on current behaviors, picture recognition, goals or dreams.

Again, I see this situation being applied to the Raiders.  In the 39 years from 1963 to 2002, the Raiders had 32 winning seasons.  Because of the last 7 seasons, the Raiders have been considered: the "laughingstock of the NFL", a ?joke of an organization", etc…  Several NFL analysts have been excessively critical and overtly disrespectful during several of the NFL drafts and some have gone as far as laughing in the face of Raiders players during interviews.  Too many media outlets have prescribed a treatment of verbal valium towards a healthy organization that has gone through a tough time

The new Oakland Raiders jerseys have signed two more draft picks to contracts.

The team announced deals with sixth-round linebacker Travis Goethel and seventh-round defence Darrius Heyward back Jeremy Ware on Thursday. The team has signed five of its nine draft picks.

The Raiders also did not sign defensive lineman Richard Seymour to a long-term deal by a deadline Thursday. The Raiders now will be unable to sign Seymour to a long-term deal until after the season because he is their franchise player.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced today

The new Philadelphia Eagles jerseys announced today that they have agreed to terms with wide receiver Riley Cooper on a four-year contract.

A fifth-round draft choice of the Eagles in 2010, the 6-foot-3-inch, 222-pound Cooper played in 51 career games (28 starts) at the University of Florida, totaling 81 receptions for 1,496 yards and 18 touchdowns.

A second-team All-Southeastern Conference honoree in 2009,DeSean Jackson  Cooper started in all 14 games and led the team in receiving yards (961) and touchdowns (9), while ranking second in receptions (51). He capped off his senior campaign finishing second in the SEC in yards per catch average .

The Eagles Book Mobile Program visited to the Carl Arthur Recreation Center on Monday Asante Samuel  for some dramatic readings from the book "Storybook Man." The visit was in partnership with the Bridgeton Youth to Youth Program.

Ray Saraceni, who goes by the nickname "Storybook Man," has been working with the project since 2001 as it tours the greater Philadelphia area each year from June to December.
Saraceni has a Ph.D. in theater from Tufts University in Massachusetts, which Jeremy Maclin  he now uses to help kids get excited about reading.

Checking In With The Redskins

If you define the long term as three or four years-and that's an eternity in the NFL-it was a good move. It seems like the wheels started to turn when it became apparent that the Rams  weren't going to let Sam Bradford slip to the fourth pick in the draft. Shanahan didn't want to go with Jason Campbell at quarter back and, at age 57 he didn't want to wait and develop a lesser quarterback. So, when McNabb became available, and the Eagles  were willing to trade him in the division, the Redskins jumped in.

He instantly became the team's leader on both sides of the ball. McNabb has been on the phone with Albert Haynesworth, for example, and he has the respect of everyone on the team. Although some will point out that he and Campbell had similar statistical seasons in 2009, the stats lie in this case. The Redskins took a major step up at the most important position on the field.

I'll give you two who have been on the roster for a few years but could have breakout seasons in 2010. Safety Kareem Moore has the edge to take LaRon Landry's free safety spot (Landry is moving to strong). He's a big hitter who  may make opposing receivers think twice about going over the middle. Lorenzo Alexander has done everything from playing as a third tackle on offense to all along the defensive line. He's being converted to outside linebacker in the new 3-4 scheme and the coaches are raving about him and

This is LaRon Landry in April. As previously noted, he said at the time that he was trying to get to 240 pounds, and that he might be playing some linebacker this season. Later, he said the linebacker part wasn't correct.

Anyhow, Landry's size continues to fascinate, and so trusted colleague Paul Tenorio passed along this dialog from last week's minicamp.
Reporter: "How much do you weigh right now?"

Landry: "Question mark."

(Editor's note: Yes, he actually said "Question mark." Not sure if I should have put "question mark," or "?", but that's what he said.)
Landry (walking away): "When I step on the scale, it says too big."

Cowboys rookie receiver Dez Bryant holding

The Presence of Miles Austin & Co. Lessens Bryant's leverage

Make no mistake about it: Dez Bryant will be a major component of the Cowboys' offense in 2010 and for years to come.

However, Bryant was still a value pick.

Not many people (including us) thought Dallas would select a wide receiver so early.  They probably would have been fine at the position without Bryant, but his talent was too much to pass up.

With Austin, the Cowboys football jerseys have a legitimate No. 1 receiver. The Cowboys would love to get Bryant signed as quickly as possible, but they are in no dire need from a personnel standpoint to do so (and Bryant knows it).

The Cowboys jerseys have a great relationship with Bryant's agent, Eugene Parker

The Cowboys have worked with Parker in the past with much success. Yes, Parker was Michael Crabtree's agent when he staged a lengthy holdout last season, but Bryant's situation is completely different.

First, the difference between top five money (which Crabtree was seeking) and top 10 money is vast, much greater than the difference in compensation for which Bryant and Parker will initially be searching and what Dallas will offer.

Secondly, no matter what you may hear, Bryant is less of a diva than Crabtree.  Crabtree's primary focus was money. Bryant's focus is playing football.

The Flower Mound Police Association All Stars will square off against several of your favorite former  new Dallas Cowboys jerseys in a family-oriented, flag football game. Cowboy favorites such as Everson Walls, Michael Downs, Jack Peavey, Michael Lockhart and Randal Williams will be there to play, sign autographs and take pictures with you!

There's definitely something for everyone at this exciting, family-friendly event and proceeds will assist the Flower Mound Police Association in its efforts to aid local charities such as Denton County Children's Advocacy Center for abused and neglected children, the Flower Mound Police Relief Fund, as well as the many other worthwhile endeavors it supports throughout the year.

Half Price Broncos Tickets

One of the more shocking things of note in the AFC West is that the game pretty much paints the picture of divisional gridlock.

And when Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill are subtracted from the Chargers roster, Kansas City appears to be to beat on offense.

The Broncos offense is arguably third best in the division for the game, while the defense looks to be tops.

As far as the roster is concerned, however, Denver only has four players with overall ratings of 90+. That seems to match up with the trend of players being separated more severely by the ratings system, and matches up well with the rest of the division.

While the Madden ratings on offense might appear harsh to the casual observer at first, it is important to remember that roster updates come along fast and frequently in the new age of gaming.

Did you know you can get half price tickets to the new  Denver Broncos jerseys games if you buy tickets on the right day? One Saturday a year, Ticketmaster sells 2,000 half price tickets to each home game. This year, the sale is Saturday, July 10, at 1 p.m.

The half price tickets are required in the legislation that authorized the construction of Invesco Field at Mile High. There are lots of rules you should know before you buy, like you can't change the name on the tickets once you buy them and you can only buy four half price tickets per household to one game per year. You also have to bring the credit card to the game that you use to buy the tickets. To read all the rules, go to the Denver Broncos jerseys . Click on tickets. Then click "single game tickets." Read until you find the "half price ticket" information. Tickets have to be picked up at will call.

About Chad Jones

The 21-year-old Jones, who won national titles in football and baseball at LSU, was the Giants' third-round draft choice in April.

Police are still investigating Friday's single-car accident in which Jones' SUV rolled into a street car line pole. Police have not received a toxicology report but say there was no evidence at the scene that alcohol was a factor.

The St. Louis Rams have signed eight of their 2010 draft picks and can now turn their attention to the big one: No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford.

The Rams said Monday they have signed all but three of the players chosen in the April draft: Bradford, offensive tackle Rodger Saffold and tight end Fendi Onobun.

Those signing contracts were receiver Mardy Gilyard, linebacker Josh Hull, cornerbacks Jerome Murphy and Marquis Johnson, defensive ends Hall Davis, Eugene Sims and George Selvie, and tight end Michael Hoomanawanui (Brandon Jacobs).

Steelers right tackle Willie Colon has injured his right Achilles' tendon while working out at the team's practice complex.

If the tendon is torn, Colon is likely to require surgery that would end his season.

Director of football operations Kevin Colbert said Colon was being evaluated by the team's medical staff. Colon left the team's practice building Monday on crutches.

Colon's injury could be a major setback to the Steelers' plans to put a greater emphasis on the run this season. They have little depth at tackle behind starters Max Starks and Colon.

Point-Counterpoint: Albert Haynesworth Edition

While cheap Albert Haynesworth jersey has been almost universally criticized for his failure to show up for the Washington Redskins' mandatory minicamp and for his request to be traded, there are two sides to every story. Here is the Albert Haynesworth jersey edition of the wildly popular Point-Counterpoint series.

Point: By not showing up for a mandatory minicamp, Haynesworth violated his contract. Mandatory means mandatory, right?

Counterpoint: Well, yes and no. True, when he signed the contract last year, he did agree to show up for mandatory events such as minicamps. But the contract called for a set penalty for failing to show up for minicamp and that's the standard set in the CBA. Haynesworth will pay his $10,000 fine for missing what turned out to be one day of practice (one was rained out, the other was cancelled by Mike Shanahan). Had the Redskins wanted to make a big deal out of minicamps, they could have put greater financial penalties for missing them into his contract. Now, if Haynesworth doesn't show up for training camp, that's another matter. But, as he indicated in his statement issued last week, he will show up for camp.

Point: Haynesworth was lied to. Before signing with the Redskins, Haynesworth and his representatives had a long talk with Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato, and he was assured that his role as a penetrating defensive tackle would remain the same. It was bad enough last year when defensive coordinator Greg Blache had him play more of a gap control role. But nose tackle in a 3-4? That's not what he was promised.

Counterpoint: This just in—Jim Zorn and Vinny Cerrato did not hold lifetime contracts to their positions with the Redskins. Change happens in the NFL, and change frequently happens with the Redskins. The December prior to Haynesworth getting those promises, Zorn had described himself to be "the worst coach in America" and nobody disagreed. Zorn wasn't exactly hanging by a thread when Haynesworth signed, but it was a good bet that Haynesworth's seven-year contract would far, far outlast Zorn. Cerrato had been on the hot seat for years, and the word was that his fate was tied to that of Zorn. In short, if Haynesworth didn't see that the winds of change already were blowing around Redskins Park when he signed that deal, he was blinded by dollar signs. And if there were changes to the regime, promises to play a particular position in a particular fashion would be gone with the wind. On top of all of that, this was a verbal agreement, which, as we all know, isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Point: Regarding the position, besides the "he should have seen that change was coming" thing, what's the big deal about being a 3-4 nose tackle instead of a 4-3 tackle? You just move over a few feet, and you're surrounded by two ends instead of by a tackle and an end?
Counterpoint: Sorry, but the difference between a nose tackle and a 4-3 DT is much bigger than sliding over a few feet. The nose tackle is constantly subject to double- and even triple-team blocking. His job is to occupy the blockers to let others make the plays. Such a style of play isn't in Haynesworth's DNA. In addition, at 6-6, Haynesworth is too tall to be a nose tackle. He's too big a target, and the chances of his career being cut short with all of the wear and tear are high. Ray Lewis had his critical remarks about Haynesworth, but he wouldn't have lined up at defensive tackle if the Ravens had asked him to. And such a change would not be all that different from the one that Haynesworth is being asked to make.

Point: Haynesworth has an issue with his employer. The way the one-sided NFL contact is set up, the only recourse a player has is to withhold his services. In his view, Haynesworth is fighting for what he thinks is best for his career, and he's playing the only card he has. Counterpoint: Great point there except it completely ignores the fact that the Redskins offered to let Haynesworth get out of that one-sided contract. He was told that the team would be changing to a 3-4 defense and that he would be expected to play nose tackle at least part of the time. If he didn't want to do that, Shanahan and Bruce Allen told him, he could forego the payment of a $21 million bonus on April 1 and get his release. They would have been perfectly happy to let Haynesworth collect about $11 million for 12 games of work, and then let him sign anywhere he wanted, no doubt collecting another big chunk of guaranteed money in the process. But when April 1 came, Haynesworth took the Redskins' check. Now he doesn't want to live up to his end of the deal.

Point: It looks like this whole thing already has passed the point of no return. It's one thing when Lewis calls you out, or when NFLPA president Kevin Mawae says, "You talk about someone putting a mask on and going in backwards to get his paycheck." It's another thing when London Fletcher says that you're "selfish" and virtually everyone on the team agrees. Albert will be a pariah in the locker room and, with the media asking all sorts of question, a massive distraction.

Counterpoint: This isn't the first time that a player has caused a flap in June and, more often than not, things get smoothed over and all is hunky-dory by the time the season starts. Just to pick out one recent example, look at Brandon Marshall of the Broncos a year ago. He complained about his contract loudly, and frequently, demanded to be traded, and was an outright disruption in training camp. Things settled down, Marshall had another 100-catch season and, at the end, he was traded to Miami and got the contract he wanted. There is no reason why the Haynesworth saga can't turn out the same way. Sure, the media will ask questions for a day or two, but things will die down. Albert will behave; if he does anything that could be considered conduct detrimental to the team, he faces a suspension that could lead to the Redskins being able to go after some of that bonus money. This situation is a little different from most in that it doesn't involve money, but someone staying away from team activities due to a dispute hardly is unprecedented.
